California Mudslides

I'm hearing alot on California weather. There's terrible flooding, mudslides, you name it. If there's anyone from that state and can inform us all a little better on your climate it would be appreciated. I know that during the winter is when most of the rain comes in from the coast and the L.A. river is almost overflowing. Any insight as to why this occurs or any ways to help reduce the damage?

The way to reduce the damage is to stop giving aid to people who build their homes in the paths of floods and mudslides and allowing them to rebuild their homes in the same danger zones. Evolution happens for a reason.

This foolishness happens all over the country. How come Buffalo gets federal aid every other year when a giant blizzard hits? They KNOW there will be another blizzard! Why does the federal government help them dig out? If they insist on living in Buffalo, they should be able to sustain themselves through the "disaster" they know is going to happen.

Thanks for your comments! I live by Chicago and we certainly know that there's a chance of a blizzard every year. The cities should keep themselves prepared. However.. no one expects a terrible disaster to occur every year, and when it does... it's only right for the Federal Government to step in.
